Art as an act of resistance. Focusing on creators from the Middle East in the current context is a way of placing the stage in a space of real complexity, far from geopolitical simplifications or uniform perspectives. These are artists who often work from the tension between identity, memory and conflict, and who make art a place of resistance, but also of imagination. After Barcelona Calling Palestine and Barcelona Calling Beirut, the third edition of the cycle expands the focus to the entire Middle East in an opportunity to hear stories that do not always reach our usual circuits and access another way of seeing the world. SPECTACLES Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah (The Epic of Bani Hilal) - Bashar Murkus and Khulood Basel - Khashabi Theatre (Palestine). Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 November at 19 h · Small Hall / Duration: 3 h including intermission / Show in Arabic with Catalan subtitles. An attractive and visual version of the legendary poem Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah (The Epic of Bani Hilal), transmitted from generation to generation since the 14th century. The epic, of oral tradition and in danger of extinction, has been part of the UNESCO intangible heritage list since 2008 and narrates the saga of the Bedouin tribe Bani Hilal. It is also the story of Abu Zayd al-Hilali, who went from being a refugee to becoming the most legendary Arab leader. The Palestinian company Kashabi reinvents traditional theatre and Bashar Murkus' pioneering approach gives it physicality, impressive visuals and challenging interpretations. A carnival with seven performers, live electronic music, large puppets and shadow theatre. The Child - Shieveh Theater Company (Iran) Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 November at 20 h · Workshops Hall / Duration: 1 h 15 min / Show in Persian with Catalan subtitles. Three women are detained at the border with Europe and interrogated by the authorities. They come from Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. They are united by the flight from a precarious and violent reality and a newborn baby travelling with them, but none of the three women admits to being its mother. In The Child, the multi-award-winning Iranian actress Fatemeh Motamed-Arya interprets all three women in a play that raises some challenging questions: To what extent can immigrants escape the predetermined destiny of the place of birth? Can nationality fatally confine individuals? Does the cycle of violence between immigrants and natives ever stop? Was not everyone, at some point, an immigrant? Yasmina Karrum (DJ SET) - (Morocco) Thursday 12 November at 22 h · Upper Vestibule / Duration: 1 h 30 min Karrum is an Amazigh DJ from Melilla and based in Barcelona. Her sound is born from the dialogue between the intimate memory of her childhood and the global influences of the present. Rooted in African rhythms and the diaspora, she constructs sets that highlight the music of her roots, fusing North African soundscapes with contemporary electronics. The re
