Carmen de Georges Bizet

Popular Opera of Barcelona: "Our Carmen is the chronicle of a homicide, the violent murder of a woman. Borrowed from the imagery of Luis Buñuel, the mise-en-scène is nourished by the sour sherry of the tablaos on the Ramblas and the scent of oranges and sea that has the bitter taste of absinthe in the brothels of Barcelona, a port of contraband and slaves of a more intense secular misery even during the dictatorship of General Franco."
