During this period, the laboratory works at full capacity and reaches its highest expression. Its sonatas —the Waldstein and even the Sonata for violin "Kreutzer" —, along with the Razumovsky Quartets, become the engineering necessary to sustain the monumental scale of the Heroica and the driving force of the Fifth. For each symphony there is a prior work: on the piano, the search for power; in the quartet, cohesion. The personal becomes epic: the piano practices the "strike" and the quartet, the "tension".
