What is beauty? Why does it obsess us so much?
What is beauty? Why does it obsess us so much? This exhibition explores the evolution of beauty ideals throughout history, analyzes how aesthetic canons have been constructed, and champions bodies and beauties excluded from the norm. Beauty ideals have existed in all eras and cultures. Philosophy has tried to define the concept of beauty, art has sought to capture it, science constantly innovates to achieve it, while the market generates constant needs to keep us always young and perfect. Notions of physical attractiveness have changed, but our pursuit of beauty never stops. The exhibition offers a critical view on the construction of beauty canons from antiquity to our times and analyzes what role art, society, politics, religion, or medicine have played. It also delves into the cosmetics industry, design, and marketing of products, focusing on skin, hair, or flesh as battlefields in the struggle for control over bodies. You can consult more information about the exhibition "El culte a la bellesa" on the CCCB website.
