Exposició "Llegir la processó de Corpus. Objectes per fabular i pregar, honorar, afirmar i sentir"

The exhibition curator, Albert Cortés, proposes a view of the Corpus Christi procession based on the objects and other bodily elements that participate in it. The celebration involved all the city's institutions, both civil and ecclesiastical, to pay homage to the Sacrament Christ, but it was also an occasion for gala, ostentation, authority and power, a space to see and be seen. These aspects were manifested —and still are— through objects that danced, sounded, burned or were simply carried to communicate, in an explicit or symbolic way, who carried them, what place they occupied in the procession and what they wanted to represent. For more than 700 years, the Barcelonins have been adding, modifying or removing these objects, which tell us about the relationships between God and the people, between neighbours and communities, between estates and sexes. The exhibition is structured around several thematic axes that allow us to go through the procession via: objects from the mythical world (giants and beasts, monsters and demons), objects of devotion (the custodia, the candles, the torches, the brandons), objects of honour (to dress up, to accompany, to garnish, to transform the space), objects of authority (identity, precedence, order, meanings), sensory objects (to see, smell, hear and savour the festival).
