Exhibition focused on Milicià ferit, by Francisco Mateos, a propaganda painting created during the Spanish Civil War with the intention of denouncing its harshness and exalting the brotherhood between soldiers. The work was conceived to participate in the Spanish Pavilion of the Republic at the International Exhibition of 1937, where Picasso's Guernica was also exhibited. After its return from Paris in 1938, it was not exhibited again due to Francoist censorship and, subsequently, due to its severe state of conservation. The deterioration of the painting is irreversible and prevents recovering its original reading. Faced with this situation, the exhibition presents a visual recreation of the work through images generated with artificial intelligence to restore, as much as possible, the expressive force of the artist's original message. It also explains the material and technical causes of the painting's deterioration and the conservation and monitoring process it requires. Consult more information about the exhibition "Milicià ferit: el rescat d'una obra insalvable" on the website of the National Art Museum of Catalonia. Last update: 21/09/2026.
