Pere Portabella understands cinema, art, and politics as inseparable spaces of action and commitment. Pere Portabella's cinema is characterized by breaking with traditional narrative forms. Always attentive to innovative movements, he worked with people outside the cinema for his film work. His work is dissident and at the forefront of modernity. He has maintained a conception of language far from the standards. He has been a transcendental producer because films such as Los Golfos by Carlos Saura, El Cochecito by Marco Ferreri, Viridiana by Luís Buñuel, or Tren de sombras by José Luís Guerin could have been made. Portabella has always shown an active political attitude. He participated in institutional politics. He was an elected senator for Girona and received the commission to organize the return of Josep Tarradellas and was responsible for the staging of those events, which he had previously conceived as a cinematic sequence. In this exhibition, the visitor will discover through material from the filmmaker and his production company Films 59 some aspects of his work as a cinema director. It also reviews his relationship with Joaquim Jordà, whose work and figure we commemorate with a show (Joaquim Jordà, through the mirror) coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of his death.
