Jean-Guihen Queyras

Thirteen years after performing the six Cello Suites by Bach at the Palau de la Música Catalana, Jean-Guihen Queyras returns to tackle this true tour de force. He does so following a new recording of the complete set and with a new instrument, the Stradivarius 'Kaiser' from 1707, built in Cremona. Six consecutive works, a single cello, and an interpreter who has performed them hundreds of times around the world: an exceptional opportunity to meet Queyras again in one of the great monuments of the repertoire for his instrument. Bach did not conceive these Suites as concert pieces, and for a long time, they were considered mainly study works. It was Pau Casals who, after discovering them as a teenager, contributed decisively to placing them at the centre of the cello repertoire. More than three centuries after they were written, Queyras returns to perform them in full at the Palau, in a season that also celebrates the 150th anniversary of Pau Casals' birth.
