L'A x L]: Marina y su Melao

Tradition and folklore are reflected in this band led by Puerto Rican Marina Molina. Marina y su Melao is a Barcelona band led by Puerto Rican Marina Molina. Their debut album, "Rezo al agua", where the Puerto Rican bomba expands to blend with the colours and flavours of other Afro-Caribbean sounds. Tradition and folklore are embodied in a powerful and innovative conception. The bomba, one of the most identifying musical expressions of Puerto Rico, is as old as the enslavement of those who illuminated it to explain their tribulations and hopes, armed with the instrument they had most at hand, the drums. But Marina is something more than bomba, she is an artist of today, of a world where cultures can mix, where people migrate, are influenced, travel, exchange their cultural traits. These mixes redraw borders and genres, allowing popular music to avoid its fossilisation.
