—Brahms and Sibelius. October 26, 2026.
Julia Fischer, one of the most admired violinists of her generation, joins the London Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme matching her virtuosity and musical sensitivity. Winner of the Yehudi Menuhin Competition at just twelve years old, the German violinist puts her talent at the service of one of the great works written for her instrument, the Brahms Violin Concerto, a monumental score in which virtuosic demands coexist with extraordinary expressive intensity and a profound dialogue between soloist and orchestra. The programme also brings us closer to Jean Sibelius, a fundamental figure of 20th-century music and one of the great creators of a symphonic voice deeply linked to the Nordic imaginary. His Symphony No. 5, one of the composer's most celebrated works, unfolds a universe of great breadth and evocative force, often associated with Finnish landscapes and nature. Conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the emblematic ensembles of the United Kingdom, Edward Gardner completes an evening that opens with the Prelude from Pau Casals' oratorio El Pessebre, bringing Catalan heritage into dialogue with two cornerstone works of the great European repertoire.
