La Torre Bellesguard has created three itineraries connecting it with other emblematic buildings in the city, as part of its commitment to researching and recovering the memory of key events and figures from our history, now forgotten. The guided tour "Memòria en Temps de Guerra" links three buildings: La Torre Bellesguard, Pati Llimona, and Basílica dels Sants Just i Pastor, retracing the lineage of the Gualbes family, highly influential and powerful between the 14th and 18th centuries. More specifically, it features the character of Joan de Gualbes i Copons, the last Gualba, who will guide us throughout this route divided into two parts: a morning session visiting La Torre Bellesguard (from 12 to 13h), and an afternoon session starting at Pati Llimona and ending at Basílica dels Sants Just i Pastor (from 17 to 19h). Joan de Gualbes i Copons is a fascinating character, a baroque poet, member of the Acadèmia dels Desconfiats, a soldier who fought in the defense of Barcelona in 1714 and died shortly after from battle wounds, but above all, he was the owner of Bellesguard, signing as Rector of Bellesguard, and serving as a bridge between Martí l'Humà and Antoni Gaudí. He collected and preserved all documentation of Bellesguard's medieval past, depositing it in Basílica dels Sants Just i Pastor to save it from the entry of Bourbon troops. Two centuries later, Gaudí would go to the Basílica to sing Gregorian chants and discover the Llibre de Bellesguard, thanks to which he could incorporate a surprising level of detail and symbolism into his work. With the kind permission of Basílica dels Sants Just i Pastor, attendees of this tour will be able to see the Llibre de Bellesguard, as well as the relic of the Vera Creu.
