A Refuge in the Sun is a generational and rural musical, a journey between the past and the present, between family intimacy and stage explosion. A celebration of difference, of the feathers, of the godmothers and of the music. Because the revolution will be queer or it won't be. Kai and Ària are brothers and artists. Their musical project is about to make the leap, but just before the festival that could change everything, Kai disappears. With the world crumbling and himself in crisis, he flees to Mas Soler, the family house in Pallars, seeking a refuge. There, he is awaited by the godmother Dolors. Between rural myths and queer legends, Kai will attempt to make the performance that will save a generation. But he knows that what is at stake is much more: it is his identity and the bond with his family. A Refuge in the Sun speaks of the social challenge of building one's own identity in a world that seems destined for chaos. How can we know who we are when reality becomes increasingly apocalyptic? How can we be tender if fascist rage spreads through our society? Through an irreverent contrast, the show proposes a dialogue between two generations and two seemingly opposite worlds: that of the grandchildren living the Trump war, X and extreme capitalism, and that of the parents who remember how the fathers fought fascism. An attempt to reconcile those who cannot forget the past with those who cannot imagine a future. After the good reception of Artemis (premiered at Teatre Condal within the Festival Grec 2024), Cia. Gèminis reaffirms its commitment to a dissident and original theatrical creation. It now presents a second show that aims to shake the audiences and generate debate, and closely linked to the theme already addressed with the first show and that is intended to be reinforced from a more adult and disruptive point of view: family bonds. The starting point is the book Diari d'un Soldat by Pere Belart, the great-uncle of Pol Sanuy, where the company finds a young soldier as lost and hopeless as our generation and led them to consider not doing another show about the civil war, but reflecting on the emotional and physical boundaries shared between eras. Once the play is finished, there will be a colloquium with the authors, directors or artists of the show where you can, where you can converse directly about their creative process and the emotions it awakens. Do not miss the opportunity to share your impressions and discover more about this unique experience. Kai and Ària are brothers and artists.
