AIDA de Giuseppe Verdi

Aida is a masterpiece of maturity by Giuseppe Verdi that combines spectacularity and emotion within the evocative setting of Pharaonic Egypt. Premiered in 1871 in Cairo, the plot revolves around a love triangle: the powerful Amneris, daughter of the pharaoh, and Aida, an Ethiopian slave who is actually the daughter of the enemy king, Amonasro, as they vie for the love of Radamès, the Egyptian general in love with Aida. Amidst the conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia, Aida struggles between loyalty to her people and her feelings, while Radamès is caught between patriotic duty and love. His inner struggle leads to an involuntary betrayal that condemns him to death, and Aida decides to share his fate in a tragic and moving finale. Beyond the dramatic intensity, Verdi knew how to compose absolutely evocative and rich-in-contrast music, with moments of lyrical intimacy such as "Celeste Aida" or the nocturnal atmospheres by the Nile, and scenes of great spectacularity such as the famous Triumphal March. An explosion of sound and color with all the emotion of romantic opera, which turns Aida into one of the undisputed milestones of the operatic repertoire.
