Exposició "Maria Girona i el tapís"

The exhibition by Maria Girona features her paintings and the only tapestry she created in Sant Cugat. It also specially recovers the tapestry "Oval rosat", a work measuring 105x145 cm. made by the artist in June 1967. This piece constitutes one of the most significant testimonies of her participation in the renewal of contemporary tapestry, a movement that included the collaboration of some of the most important artists in the country and that transformed the traditional language of the tapestry into a discipline fully integrated within contemporary art. In this context, Maria Girona brought a personal, sensitive and innovative perspective. Maria Girona (1923-2015) developed an artistic trajectory marked by the elegance of forms, chromatic subtlety and deep poetic sensitivity. Her work, both pictorial and textile, represents an essential contribution to Catalan artistic modernity and to the progressive incorporation of women into the main currents of contemporary art.
