This year 2026 Barcelona has been named World Capital of Architecture.
Within the framework of this event, the Maritime Museum presents this exhibition to recall the origin and history of one of the city's most emblematic buildings. The Royal Shipyards are internationally recognized for their monumentality and their good state of conservation, and in 1976 they were declared a National Historical-Artistic Monument. Their origin dates back to the 13th century, during the reign of Pere el Gran. In the subsequent centuries they were gradually expanded and modified until reaching the appearance we know today. The exhibition takes a tour through the different moments and uses of this complex, considered as the largest and most complete medieval shipyards preserved in the world, and a unique example of civil Gothic architecture. You can consult more information about the exhibition "Time Travel through the Royal Shipyards of Barcelona" on the Maritime Museum website.
