Monthly in-person workshop to finish and refine a play. Theatre serves to give a tone to the imagination.
Alexander Kluge How to approach a play dramatically from the outset? How to refine and correct it, verifying whether the approach was theatrical? Which ideas are theatrical and which are not? What defines the theatricality of a dramatic idea? How to approach a play and how not to approach it? How to correct it without ruining it? How to refine it and how not to refine it? Often we write and fill pages and pages without achieving a truly theatrical realm, because the approach crumbles from the start.
Throughout a workshop with a monthly session so there is time to write from one month to another, with a maximum of ten authors, in this workshop each participant will work on how to think of a play's approach in a dramatic way, how to think of the play in terms of theatrical juxtaposition, or, if the play is already written, how to review its approach and how to steer the piece towards its refinement. Advancing in constellation, we will learn from each other's approaches, all while training the gaze around what is theatrical from the perspective of friction forces, conflicts, mandatory images, mandatory scenes and changes during the play.
Upon completing the workshop, we will collaborate with actresses and actors to read the texts.
Probably we can build a play with everything minus tension. However, the way we establish this tension may be less Cartesian than it seems at first glance. Here opens a space for innovation, where we do not try to answer questions about the concerns that lead us to write, but to sow questions fruitfully within the text. NIGREDO, trained in conceiving pieces in dialogue, proposes this workshop as an extension of its methodology, with the combination of Albert Tola as author and Rodrigo García Olza as playwright, director and actor-reader of the texts that arise during the process. In addition to its stage pieces, NIGREDO runs writing workshops and actor dramaturgy workshops. Its most recent and outstanding pieces were En un lloc remot i voluntàriament indeterminat, at Sala Beckett, De nit totes les pells són blaves, audiovisual poem for ten voices arising from an international writing workshop for Tantarantana and the 2020 Barcelona Festival Grec, and Laguna memoria, experimental feature film with the support of Iberescena made with the same creative team.
