Tuesday 15 December - 19h · Conference: the old impertinents Adrien Valgalier is a doctorate holder in film and audiovisual studies from the University of Montpellier Paul-Valéry. He dedicated his thesis to popular French comedies of the 1960s-1970s. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Sorbonne Nouvelle and is working on a European research project dedicated to representations of ageing in contemporary European cinema. His intervention puts Les Vieux de la vieille (Gilles Grangier, 1960), Carambolages (Marcel Bluwal, 1963) and Le Distrait (Pierre Richard, 1970) in perspective. Through humour and satire, these three films highlight the mutations and contradictions of French society during the Trente Glorieuses and offer a stinging view of generational rivalries. 20h · Screening: Les VIEUX DE LA VIEILLE GILLES GRANGIER | France, 1960, 1h26 | DCP Performers: Pierre Fresnay, Jean Gabin, Noël-Noël… Three old pranksters and grumpies, full of age and without reason, decide to leave their native village to go to the Gouyette hospice where, it seems, "a litre of wine is served at noon and the chopine in the evening". But once there, they are disappointed by the austerity of the place. A great success of the year 1960, Les Vieux de la vieille offers a choice of score to its performers, three glories of French cinema: Pierre Fresnay, Jean Gabin and Noël-Noël. Carried by the dialogues of Michel Audiard, these actors stand out in this grotesque farce full of ambiguity. If the film attacks a certain modernism and is moved by the exclusion of the elderly, it attacks in an anarchist vein the (too) well-established societies.
