The Iberian fortified enclosure of Puig de Castellet is located on a hill about 195 m high. From the platform where it is situated, it overlooks the coastline from the mouth of the Tordera to the eastern end of Lloret beach. Excavation campaigns and the study of materials have revealed that the enclosure had an approximate life of fifty years during the 3rd century B.C. These are the moments when Rome and Carthage fought for control of the western Mediterranean in the so-called Punic Wars. Puig de Castellet was built between the first and second of these wars, around 250 B.C., and was definitively abandoned shortly after the end of the second, around the year 200 B.C. During these difficult times, it served as a lookout point over the sea to ensure the defense of nearby settlements, especially the large settlement of Montbarbat.
