LES DONES PIÑEIRO

A family story, of class, of gender and of identity, but above all it is the story of the silenced role of women in the workers' and trade union struggles of the eighties. Taking as a guiding thread several generations of the Piñeiro family —from Ourense and settled in the industrial belt of Barcelona—, the work travels from the struggles for equal pay during the early years of the democratic period to the redundancies resulting from the burst of the property bubble. The action is set in a fictitious factory of boilers and thermostats, where the female workers carry out a strike to put an end to labour discrimination due to gender. Intersectionality, class consciousness and identity struggles run through the proposal. Les Dones Piñeiro is a comedy about women who struggle: they struggle to be good workers, good wives, good mothers, good workers and, even, good women. They struggle to decide about their destiny, to be able to advance, to arrive on time, to have the right to a nursery. They struggle for their dignity and for that of their female colleagues. They struggle —without the support of their male colleagues— to achieve advances of which we all and all today enjoy, even though we often do not know the history that lies behind.
